About the Artist

Sabrina Hill - Art with Soul

Artist, Calligrapher, Teacher & Reiki Master

A client once asked me when I decided to become an artist.

At birth.

When I was seven, I taught myself calligraphy out of the "L" volume of the World Book Encyclopedia set. For those of you too young to remember, that's what we used to find information before Google. An illustrious start. From there I went onto designing logos for small businesses--my first paid job was for a dog food business. The design consisted of their company name--"Dog Gone Good" made with bone-shaped letters. I received $25 and ran right out and bought a pair of Earthshoes.

Today, you’ll find me in front of my easel throughout the day working on one or more compositions. I adore color. I like the energy of it and how it makes me feel. I am often attracted to the color of a composition before the subject matter. Animals are a favorite topic—anything from dogs to cats to koi fish to chickens—the challenge of capturing a cherished pet’s personality on canvas is irresistible. Humor is another oft found element in my work. While I work to attain a degree of realism, I am a painter—so it is important to me that you never forget that real hands created the strokes.

I have always been aware of the role of the soul in creating art. Using Reiki, a hands-on energy healing technique, I infuse my art with powerful positive energy. I hope my paintings bring a little art and soul into your living room.

My dining room is now my studio:  Being amidst the family activities makes me feel connected and inspired. It also allows me to put on a pot of spaghetti sauce and stir it between brush strokes! I imagine many great artists had the smell of linseed oil and garlic in their studios!

In addition to working on my own projects, I take commissions in a variety of subject matter from fine art pet portraits to calligraphy.  I have recently started offering art workshops in various mediums including acrylics, watercolors, and pastels.

I live in Northern California with my high school sweetheart and husband of nearly 40 years  and there lovely dogs. 2024 marks the year we became grandparents!
